I must say I get more questions about dining etiquette than any other subject. So let me start by answering the most frequently asked question.
Q. How do I know which drinking glasses belongs to me?
A. Dining etiquette questions are very common. Because business is often conducted in social situations, mastering the social graces is critical. Job interviews often happen over lunch. Your social graces are often being evaluated. Education, technical skills are important but excellent social skills will seal the deal.
Here is the answer: All of your drinking utensils will be on your right along with your knives. Take no chances! A breech of protocol can be very costly. Professionals should bone up on their dining skills. You never know who’s watching.

I have a question I hope you can answer for me:
I am really bad at remembering names of people I have met particularly, in a business setting. What is the appropriate way to tell someone you have previous met that you do not remember his or her name? This is a really a problem for me especially when they remember my name.
Thanks
Miss Avalon,
This is a very common occurence, especially among business professionals that come in contact with many people throughout their day. I have heard many suggestions to this challenge over the years.
When I meet someone and they give me their card, I make notes on the back of the card as soon as possible. The notes include the date, place and time that I met them. I also include their relationship to me or my company. This exercise will assist you in committing the relationship to memory.
Should I see someone whose name I can't remember, I do the following: When shaking their hand I smile. I warm up the handshake by placing a second hand on the back of their hand and lean in just a bit. I look directly into their eyes and say, "please remind me of your name". In a situation like this honesty is the best policy. If the person seems offended, kindly apologize and move the conversation forward.
